Avios is a travel-rewards currency used by several airline loyalty programs. You can collect Avios from eligible flights, credit cards, hotels, shopping partners, and other activities, then spend them on flights, upgrades, travel extras, hotels, car rentals, and selected experiences. However, not every airline you can book with Avios uses Avios as its own loyalty currency.

Airlines That Use Avios Directly

Direct Avios Programs vs. Partner Airlines

An airline can be connected to Avios in two different ways. First, its own loyalty program may use Avios as the reward currency. British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Qatar Airways, Finnair, and Loganair fall into this group.

Second, an airline may be an alliance or independent partner of an Avios program. You may be able to earn Avios on an eligible paid flight or redeem Avios for a partner award, even though that airline uses a different currency in its own program.

British Airways

British Airways uses Avios through The British Airways Club, formerly called the Executive Club. Members can collect Avios on qualifying British Airways flights, eligible partner flights, vacation packages, hotels, car rentals, shopping, and other partner activity.

You can spend Avios on British Airways Reward Flights, partner flights, eligible cabin upgrades, part payment toward certain cash fares, hotels, car rentals, and other travel rewards. The number of Avios and the cash amount depend on the route, travel date, cabin, peak or off-peak pricing, and the payment option selected.

British Airways guarantees a minimum number of reward seats on its own flights from London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and London City, but your preferred date or partner flight can still have limited availability.

Old examples quoting 4,500 Avios for a European flight should not be treated as current pricing. British Airways has changed its reward rates and cash charges more than once. Use the official Reward Flights page and live booking search to see the current requirement.

Iberia

Iberia uses Avios through Iberia Club, which replaced the Iberia Plus name in 2025. Members collect Avios on eligible Iberia spending and qualifying flights with oneworld and other program partners.

Avios can be used for Iberia reward flights, eligible partner flights, upgrades, travel extras, hotels, car rentals, and other experiences. Iberia has its own reward pricing and peak-date rules, so the price shown by British Airways for the same destination may not match the price shown by Iberia Club.

Iberia Club and Vueling Club members can link qualifying accounts through Avios Wallet. Selected Avios programs also support transfers when your personal details match across the accounts.

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus uses Avios through its AerClub loyalty program. Members can collect Avios on qualifying Aer Lingus flights and eligible partner activity, then use them for Aer Lingus and participating partner rewards.

Aer Lingus publishes a zone-based reward chart. For example, its reward guide has listed an off-peak economy flight from Dublin to London at 4,000 Avios one way, excluding taxes, fees, and carrier charges. That is an example rather than a guaranteed future price.

Aer Lingus can be especially useful for travel between Ireland, the United Kingdom, continental Europe, and North America. Compare total cash charges as well as the Avios amount before booking a transatlantic reward.

Vueling

Vueling uses Avios through Vueling Club. Avios can be used as full or partial payment for eligible Vueling flights and extras such as seats and baggage.

Earning depends on your Vueling Club tier. Under the current structure, Basic members earn tier points but do not earn Avios from Vueling bookings. Smart, Plus, and Premium members can earn Avios at different rates based on eligible spending.

Vueling Club members may also collect Avios through hotels, car rentals, credit cards, the Vueling Club eStore, and other partners. Avios from qualifying activity normally remain active when you collect or use Avios within the program’s required period.

LEVEL

LEVEL operates low-cost long-haul flights, including services between Barcelona and destinations in the Americas. However, LEVEL does not operate a separate Avios loyalty program of its own.

You can collect or use Avios on eligible LEVEL flights through Iberia Club participation. The earning rate, redemption access, fare eligibility, and elite benefits depend on the flight code, fare, route, and Iberia Club rules.

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways Privilege Club uses Avios as its reward currency. Members can collect Avios on eligible Qatar Airways flights, oneworld flights, other airline partners, hotels, car rentals, shopping, financial partners, and lifestyle activity.

Avios can be spent on Qatar Airways award flights, eligible upgrades, partner flights, and Cash + Avios bookings. Qatar Airways has its own award pricing, availability, and fees, which may differ from British Airways or Iberia.

Eligible members can link a Qatar Airways Privilege Club account with The British Airways Club and move Avios between the two accounts at a 1:1 ratio. Names, dates of birth, and other personal details must match.

Finnair

Finnair Plus adopted Avios as its loyalty currency in 2024. Members collect Avios on eligible Finnair and partner flights, travel extras, and qualifying partner purchases.

You can use Finnair Plus Avios for Finnair award flights, partner awards, travel-class upgrades, seats, extra baggage, onboard purchases, hotels, car rentals, and other partner services.

Finnair supports transfers between its program and selected other Avios programs. Transfers are generally at a 1:1 ratio, but account age, matching details, and security requirements apply.

Loganair

Loganair Loyalty adopted Avios on March 31, 2025, replacing Clan Points. Members can collect Avios on eligible Loganair-operated flights and spend them on qualifying Loganair reward flights.

Loganair members can link their accounts with selected participating Avios programs and move Avios at a 1:1 ratio. This gives regional travelers a way to collect Avios on Loganair flights and later use the balance through another linked program, subject to current transfer rules.

Some codeshare, government-contracted, discounted, or otherwise excluded fares may not earn Avios. Add your Loganair Loyalty number before flying and check the fare conditions.

Partner Airlines You Can Earn or Spend Avios With

Avios programs have relationships with oneworld members and selected independent partners. Depending on the program, route, flight number, operating carrier, and fare class, you may be able to collect Avios on a paid flight or use Avios to book a partner reward.

The safest way to understand a partner booking is to identify three details:

• Marketing airline: The airline code printed on your ticket.
• Operating airline: The airline that physically operates the aircraft.
• Loyalty program: The program number attached to the reservation.

Codeshare combinations and discount fares can change your eligibility. Use the earning calculator or partner table supplied by the Avios program before buying the ticket.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is a oneworld member and a partner of several Avios programs. Its own loyalty program is Atmos Rewards, which replaced Mileage Plan in August 2025.

If you attach a qualifying British Airways Club or another eligible Avios-program number to an Alaska flight, you may collect Avios according to that program’s partner-earning rules. You may also use Avios to book eligible Alaska award seats when the Avios program has access to partner inventory.

Atmos Rewards points and Avios are separate currencies. Flying Alaska can earn one currency or the other depending on the loyalty number and eligibility, but the same flight should not be described as converting Atmos points into Avios.

American Airlines

American Airlines is a oneworld member. Its own program uses AAdvantage miles, not Avios.

Eligible American Airlines flights can earn Avios when you credit them to The British Airways Club, Iberia Club, or another participating Avios program. The amount may depend on eligible spending, fare class, cabin, ticketing airline, and program rules.

You can also redeem Avios for American Airlines flights when partner award seats are available. The Avios price and cash charges depend on the program used to make the booking. AAdvantage miles do not automatically convert into Avios.

Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific is a oneworld airline. Its current loyalty program is Cathay membership, and its reward currency is Asia Miles. The old Marco Polo Club name should not be used as the current program name.

You may collect Avios on eligible Cathay Pacific flights when you credit the flight to an Avios program that recognizes the fare. You may also redeem Avios for eligible Cathay Pacific award seats through participating programs.

Asia Miles and Avios remain separate currencies. Before booking, compare the availability, mileage requirement, taxes, and change rules offered by Cathay and the Avios program you plan to use.

Qantas

Qantas is a founding oneworld member. Its native loyalty currency is Qantas Points, not Avios.

Eligible Qantas flights can earn Avios when credited to a participating Avios program. You may also use Avios to book available Qantas partner awards, subject to the booking program’s prices and access to Qantas reward inventory.

Qantas Points do not automatically convert into Avios. Decide which program you want to credit before traveling, because attaching a Qantas Frequent Flyer number normally directs eligible earnings to Qantas rather than an Avios account.

How to Earn Avios

You do not need to fly every week to build an Avios balance. Common earning methods include:

• Eligible flights with an airline whose loyalty program uses Avios
• Eligible flights with oneworld and other airline partners
• Co-branded or transferable-points credit cards where available
• Hotel stays and car rentals booked through qualifying partners
• Online shopping portals and participating retailers
• Vacation packages, travel extras, and selected subscription products
• Buying or receiving Avios under the program’s rules

Always begin through the airline or partner’s official earning page. Shopping-portal purchases, hotel bookings, and car rentals may not qualify if you visit the merchant directly or use an excluded discount code.

How to Move Avios Between Programs

Several Avios programs allow you to link accounts and move Avios at a 1:1 ratio. The supported combinations can change, and not every Avios program links directly with every other program.

Your name, email address, date of birth, and other account information may need to match. Some programs require the account to be open for a minimum period or require two-factor authentication.

Maximizing Avios Points for Travel

Start by comparing the complete booking cost rather than the Avios amount alone. A reward requiring fewer Avios may have higher taxes, carrier charges, booking fees, or cancellation costs.

Short, nonstop flights can provide useful value when cash fares are high, while long-haul premium cabins can provide strong value when award seats are available. Neither option is automatically best. Divide the cash price you avoid by the Avios used, then account for the cash charges you still have to pay.

Flexibility matters. Search nearby airports, compare peak and off-peak dates, check economy and premium cabins, and examine more than one Avios program when transfers are available. Partner airlines may release only a small number of seats to other programs.

You should also protect your balance from expiration. The required activity period differs by program. Collecting, spending, buying, or transferring may count differently, so check the rules of the account holding your Avios.
