Southwest flies to more than 100 airports, and at big airports with several terminals, heading to the wrong one can cost you 20 minutes or more. This page gives you Southwest’s terminal (or concourse) and gate area at 40 major US airports in one table, checked against Southwest’s own airport information page and the airports’ official sites in November 2026.
You will also find the airports where Southwest recently moved, a few that confuse people every year (Las Vegas, Kansas City, Fort Lauderdale and San Francisco), and how to confirm your terminal on the day you fly.
Quick Answer
It depends on the airport. Southwest uses Terminal 1 at Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Fort Lauderdale and San Diego, Terminal 2 at San Francisco, Minneapolis and St. Louis, Terminal 4 at Phoenix and Ontario, Terminal A at Orlando, Terminal B at LaGuardia and Boston, Concourse C at Denver and Atlanta, and the single new terminal at Kansas City. Check the table below for 40 airports.
Key Takeaways
- Southwest’s own airport information page lists the terminal and gate range for every airport it serves. It is the best single source to check before you leave.
- Southwest moved from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 at San Francisco on March 4, 2025. Check-in, bag drop and baggage claim moved too.
- At Las Vegas, Southwest is in Terminal 1, using B and C gates. At Fort Lauderdale it is in Terminal 1, using A and B gates.
- At Kansas City, Southwest operates from the airport’s single new terminal at B gates in the 50s and 60s.
- A few airports split Southwest across two areas, including Oakland (Terminals 1 and 2), Chicago Midway (Concourses A and B) and Phoenix (C and D gates in Terminal 4).

Southwest at Las Vegas: Terminal 1
If you searched for Southwest’s departure terminal number at Las Vegas, the answer is Terminal 1. Harry Reid International Airport lists Southwest in Terminal 1, and Southwest’s own page shows it using both B gates and C gates. Las Vegas has a large Southwest operation, so allow time to reach your concourse after security, especially for the C gates.
If a rideshare driver asks, say Terminal 1. Our Southwest Las Vegas terminal guide covers parking, security and the tram in more detail.
Southwest at the New Kansas City Airport
Kansas City International now has one terminal instead of the old horseshoe-shaped buildings, so you cannot go to the wrong one. Southwest uses B gates in the 50s and 60s: B54, B56, B58, B60, B62 through B66, and B68. Because everything is under one roof, the main decision is which security lane is least busy and how far you need to walk to your gate.
For check-in counter location, parking and dining near the Southwest gates, read our Southwest MCI terminal guide.
Southwest at Fort Lauderdale: Terminal 1
At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, Southwest is in Terminal 1, which has both A and B concourses. Southwest uses gates A1 through A5 and B2 and B4 through B9. When you arrive by car, follow the roadway signs for Terminal 1.

Airports Where Southwest Has Moved
Terminal changes are the most common reason travelers end up in the wrong place, because old blog posts and map apps can lag behind. Two moves worth knowing:
- San Francisco (SFO): Southwest moved from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 starting with the first flight on March 4, 2025. Check-in, bag check and baggage claim all moved to Terminal 2. Southwest now uses D gates there.
- Boston Logan (BOS): Southwest moved from Terminal A to Terminal B in 2019 and uses gates 31A through 35 on Pier A of Terminal B. Some older guides still say Terminal A or E.
- San Diego (SAN): Southwest is in Terminal 1 and uses gates 101 through 113. Our Southwest San Diego terminal guide covers the details.
Airports Where Southwest Uses More Than One Area
At most airports Southwest sits in one concourse. At a handful of busy ones, it is spread out:
- Oakland: both Terminal 1 (gates 4, 6, 8a and 10) and Terminal 2 (gates 20–32).
- Chicago Midway: Concourses A and B, reached from the same main terminal.
- Baltimore/Washington: Concourses A, B and C.
- Phoenix: C and D gates, both inside Terminal 4.
- Nashville: Concourses C and D.
- Honolulu: Terminal 2, with interisland check-in in Lobby 6 and mainland check-in in Lobby 7.
At these airports, go by the gate on your boarding pass rather than the terminal alone. At Los Angeles, Southwest stays in Terminal 1, which our Southwest LAX terminal guide explains step by step.
How to Confirm Your Southwest Terminal on Travel Day
- Check Southwest’s airport information page. It lists every airport Southwest serves, with terminal, gate range, ticket counter hours and suggested arrival times.
- Look at your boarding pass. Once you check in, the app and mobile boarding pass show your gate.
- Use the airport’s own website or app. Airport flight boards update in real time if a gate changes.
- Read the roadway signs. Most large airports post airline names by terminal on the approach road.
Southwest’s airport page also lists ticket counter opening times, which vary. Many counters open 90 or 120 minutes before the first departure of the day, and some, such as Honolulu, open earlier.
Warning: In Dallas, Houston, Chicago and New York, make sure you are going to the right airport, not just the right terminal. In those cities Southwest’s airport list shows Dallas Love Field, Houston Hobby, Chicago Midway and New York LaGuardia.
